Landscape Pond Aerators – How to Choose the Best One For Your Pond

Posted on June 1, 2021

Choosing the best landscape pond is a very important decision. A garden pond can quickly add significant value to your property and there are also many other benefits such as relaxing in a garden pond during off seasons or as a focal point for a party. Landscape ponds are now readily available from a wide range of manufacturers, including most of the major garden pond brands. As well as choosing the appropriate size pond for your needs, you also need to consider the right equipment for installation and maintenance.

Once you have decided to install a landscape pond, you must decide which type of pond aerator is best for your particular circumstances. The two main types of pond aerators are submersible and afloat. A submersible pond aerator is the most traditional way to install a pond pump and filter and, as you will probably guess, it is also the most expensive. However, for larger landscape ponds this might not always be the best option. If your pool is relatively shallow and/or you are only considering installing a pump and filter then a submersible pond aerator may well be the best solution.

When choosing a landscape pond aerator, it is essential that you consider how large your pond is. If you have a small pond and you are replacing an aeration system that is too large for your pond, you may still be able to use the old aeration system. In this instance you would of course need to make sure that the new model fits perfectly into the space available. You should also consider how many trees and plants you would like to install on top of the pond as the more foliage and plants the better the aeration.

Once you have decided on the type of pond aerator and/or pond pump you need then you should spend some time looking at reviews of the products. If possible ask friends and family what they think of the pond pump and aerator. This is obviously a personal preference but if a particular product has received mixed reviews with people being very positive about one aspect of the product then perhaps it would not be worth purchasing. Also check out online retailers and read the product descriptions. Pay close attention to the specifications of the products and make sure they are precise.

It may be tempting to purchase a pond aerator that is not necessarily the most cost effective. However, you should not do this. Firstly check the operating costs – if you can purchase a cheaper pump but it is noisy then this is probably going to be more costly in the long run as the running cost will increase over time. Another way of saving money is to purchase an aerator with a lower maximum flow but with a higher horsepower. If you are happy with the performance of the pond aerator and the output of the pump then you will not need to replace it any time soon.

The next step is to research the various features and options of the best landscape pond aerator. Check the various sizes and power. Choose between those that use electricity or gas. Look at the operating instructions – are there any added accessories such as pumps and filters? If so, what are these and what are their prices?

You may also wish to research online to see which types of aerators are reviewed favorably. Some sites allow users to leave testimonials and give ratings. You should also search for online consumer magazines that publish product reviews. These can help you narrow down your search and make the best decision.

Remember, the purpose of an aerator in your garden pond is not to just dechlorinate the water. You also want to provide a habitat for various types of aquatic life. To achieve this, there must be enough plants in the pond to help filter out the pollutants. The best landscape pond aerator will meet all of these needs and more. As your pond begins to prosper, you will have more time to enjoy it fully, rather than struggling to maintain it.
