A lot depends on how you want to plant your flower garden. If you have decided to use flowers that can bloom at all times, such as the lily, tulips, and daffodils, then you may want to plant them in a straight line. It is best to do a little research before planting these plants in your backyard. You will find that the most common flower bed designs involve a straight line.

For those who would like more than just flowers in their landscaping, there are other options you can explore. You can try to design your backyard with boulders, large rocks, and even tree stumps. Aside from being an interesting element to your flower bed design, these materials can add texture and depth to the area. These materials can be used to create the structure and shape of your landscaping flower beds. Some examples of interesting rock and boulder designs include:

Rock Bed A rock design is an old time landscaping design that has turned into a very popular backyard landscaping design. With this design, you will need large rocks that are between eight to ten feet in height. These rocks should be placed in the center of your flower bed. The design is simple and straightforward. The main purpose of the rock design is to keep the soil moist and cool.

Boulders and Rocks Another type of rock landscaping design are using large boulders and logs. These materials should be arranged in such a way that they appear natural and they also help you keep the soil in the area cool and moist. This design also makes use of natural stone structures such as: stalactites and stalagmites.

Using Stonework and Chimneys Another idea to help you create a rock garden is by using scaffolding and rock pillars. This is considered as one of the best landscaping ideas for a rock garden, because it creates a natural flow or pattern in the landscape. Rock pillars and scaffolding can be used to: direct water flow to the flower bed, create a resting area for your pet animals, and display beautiful art work or cultural artifacts. You can also choose to: add a seating area near the flower bed, build a walkway or deck around the flower bed, and/or display climbing plants and flowers along the sides of the rock garden. If you are going to display climbers, make sure that it adds texture and depth to the rock garden.

Backyard Bird Feeders For decades, people have been creating their own backyard bird feeders using small platforms to provide food and water for local birds. Today, backyard bird feeders have undergone a complete makeover. Instead of using wood, many people are using plastic or mesh materials to construct their bird feeders. This allows for more creativity and flexibility when designing and building the bird feeder.
