What Are the Features to Look For in a Pond Kit?

Posted on May 23, 2021

If you have decided to get a 1000 gallon preformed pond then you must realize that you will have to do a lot of work and a little research in order to make it look good. Even the preformed pond kits are not that cheap. Also you need to know which types of pond kits that you are going to buy. There are a few different types, for example there are pond liners, landscape pond kits, and garden pond kits.

The thing that most people do not realize when they go to buy a pond kit is that the pond kit that they buy does not come with the pond liner that you need. Usually they will just include the hdpe liner that has holes in it. Now if you were to buy the liner from the hardware store and the huge liner from the pond kit, then this would be your cheaper solution. Now if you want a better quality preformed pond liner that you can install yourself then you will have to pay more money. The price that you will have to pay for one of these 1000 gallon preformed pond kits depends on what type of kit you end up buying.

Garden ponds usually consist of rock gardens or landscaping ponds. If you put a rock garden pond in your garden and then put a pond filter in it and a pump then this would be considered a landscaping pond. This type of pond requires a pump and an appropriate water treatment system. The pump must be powerful enough to move all of the fish out of the pond before the water starts to become too toxic.

Preformed ponds also usually contain geomembranes. Now geomembranes are nothing more than mesh nets that are used to control the flow of water. If you put a geomembrane in your garden pond and then put a pump and filter in it then this would be considered a landscape pond. The correct term for a geomembrane is “filter stack”.

Preformed pond liners come in two different types. There is the HDPE or high density polyethylene which is more expensive than the HDPE coated preformed pond liner. Now the coating on the HDPE is not of the finest quality and it is not very durable so if you find this out be sure to get another brand that is far superior to the HDPE.

Then there is the Vinyl material which is the least expensive of the two and is easily replaced and the most versatile of the two types of preformed pond kits. This material is also very durable, easy to clean and is a very fine finish. If you choose this material for your pond then you should expect to pay the least amount for your pond kit.

One of the other things that you will need to consider is if you will need a pump to add water to the pond. The pumps are available in a variety of sizes. If you have a small pond than a small pump will do just fine. If you have a larger pond then a larger pump will probably be needed and you will also need to consider what type of filter to use to keep your water clear and safe for your fish.

When you go to pick out your pond kit you can find many resources online to help you with your decisions. You can compare prices and even read testimonials from other people who have purchased these pond kits. Make sure that you get the best quality product for your money. There are some really great deals out there and you may be able to find one that fits your budget.
